The #ANOKHI13 awards show was a grand affair that took place in the summer of 2016 in Toronto. As #hotstarTheANOKHIAwards17 gets ready to shine the light on the global South Asian success story on Tuesday November 28th at the historic Liberty Grand in Toronto (for more info: www.AnokhiAwards.com), I will be releasing weekly one-on-one interviews that I had with last year’s award recipients, where they share their journeys, passions, and secrets. Interview One: Actress Melanie Chandra, spoke to me about the one little known fact that led to her leap of faith into the then unknown world of Hollywood for her, as an engineering degree graduate from Stanford University who had a dream that needed to actualize!
Here’s what she had to say about being honoured: “I’m very humbled to be on this year’s ‘The ANOKHI List’ among such leaders, achievers, and talent from around the world. ANOKHI has done a commendable job of highlighting the contributions of South Asians over the years, and I’m proud of how it’s empowered our community to stand up, stand out, and make a difference.”
Here’s one person’s opinion on why Melanie is “ANOKHI”: “In the spirit of ANOKHI the name Melanie Chandra shines as a rising star. [She] brings her own distinct culture, talent and beauty to the ever expanding diversification of Hollywood. Bravo! Melanie Chandra has her heart, brains and spirit in all the right places. ANOKHI indeed!” ~ Marcia Gay Harden, Actress
