Anjulie is far from your average music vixen. This suburban Toronto artist knew from a very early age that she wanted to forge a career in music. The pivitol moment came when, in her own words: “Alanis Morrissette’s Jagged Little Pill came out; that was my shit”.
Taking her dream full throttle, she relocating to Los Angeles in 2009, becoming exposed to the city’s club scene and identifying her sound as: “…global alternative pop…up-tempo, but… aggressive”. Here, she signed to Universal and became an in-demand songwriter, penning tunes for the likes of Chris Brown, Laidback Luke, Fefe Dobson and Cassie. She also landed high-profile song placements on The Vampire Diaries, Air Canada flights and MTV’s The Hills and The City.
Her debut single, “Brand New Bitch”, which has gone certified Platinum in Canada, is a testament to her incredible talent and bold voice.
Her second single, “Stand Behind the Music” is a strong rock pop anthem, keeping her momentum strong and consistent as a force to be reckoned with.
In her words: “I’m always interested in being disarming”, and “I want to find the truth and draw it out in other people. I think that’s what separates me… I’m not afraid to go there”. And go there she does, in candid conversation with me, moments before we left to appear at ANOKHI’s 9th Anniversary event in February 2012, where she blew the house down in a 3 song set as the main attraction. Watch her talk about how she almost didn’t make it, and the moment when she knew she was well on her way.
