As the co-host of CP24 Breakfast, a popular Canadian morning television news program, Pooja Handa is no stranger to Torontonians. Handa began her broadcasting career as a traffic reporter and entertainment host for Global Morning News in Toronto. Her talent was noticed immediately and won her the opportunity to create and host the unique entertainment segment ‘PH Factor’.

In 2008, Handa became a CP24 anchor and then, in 2011, she became the co-host of CP24 Breakfast Weekends before greeting viewers at the start of each weekday.

Handa has extensively covered politics and entertainment. Her success over the years has earned her assignments covering prestigious events including the Toronto International Film Festival and the 40th anniversary of the Juno Awards.

Handa is very passionate about charity and giving back to the community and works closely with the Halton Industry Education Council as a mentor to young girls who are trying to form their future career path. Handa also won the 2015 Top Choice Award for Best Female Television Personality, in the same year, this past March, she was also awarded News Media Personality Of The Year 2015 at The ANOKHI Awards during ANOKHI MEDIA’s 12th Anniversary celebration.

In this interview, I speak to Pooja about her evolution in the media world and how her high-strung and energetic personality helps her genuinely connect with Toronto audiences. Pooja also talks about efforts to make it in the acting world and how it helped her gain pride and confidence in her cultural identity as a South Asian woman.
